  • 35th Annual Country Christmas Stroll & House Tour

    The annual “Country Christmas Stroll and House Tours” presented by the Okawville Chamber of Commerce and the Heritage House Museum Association will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd.

    Hours of the Stroll for visiting businesses, Festival Of Trees, touring museums, crafts and vendor shows are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    House Tours

    House tours begin at noon both days and go until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Four private homes and a church will be featured on the house tour sponsored by the Heritage House Museum.

    Homes include those of State Representative Charlie Meier, Julie Heberer, Bill and Ellen Krohne and Dan and Katie Kramper.

    The cost of the House Tour is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

    Church Tour And Quilt Show

    St. Barbara Catholic Church will also be open and a quilt show will be displayed in the church. Three generations of quilts from the same family, all hand quilted by Olivia Meyer, Diann Brammeier and Alyssa Brammeier, will be displayed.

    There is no charge to tour St. Barbara’s and see the quilts.

    Businesses Open

    Visitors may also enjoy shopping at the specialty and gift shops Okawville has to offer including Annette’s Flower’s and Gifts and Green’s Holiday Shop.

    Breakfast With Santa

    On Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m., a “Breakfast with Santa” will be held at the Original Springs Hotel. Children eat free – compliments of the Okawville Lion’s club. Make reservations (618-243-5694 – leave a message with name and phone number).

    Country Craft Fair and Festival Of Trees     Along with these activities, a “Country Craft Fair” featuring quality handcrafted items and the “Festival of Trees” will be held in the Community Club building. About 25 decorated trees will be displayed to the theme of “Illinois” in keeping with the Bicentennial celebration of the State of Illinois. All ages enjoy this wonderful display and the cost is $2.00.

    Flea Market And Vendor Show

    A flea market and vendor show will be featured at the Immanuel Lutheran School.

    Illinois Classroom

    NEW this year will be an “Illinois Classroom” featuring information about the 200 years of the State of Illinois inventions and inventors and will be held at Immanuel Lutheran School. This activity is being hosted by the faculty and students of Immanuel Lutheran School.

    Food, Hospitality, Singing

    Enjoy a luncheon or snack at a variety of places in Okawville. Luncheon and food items will be featured in various locations during the days of the Stroll.

    Information and a hospitality area will be at the Community Club building in the craft fair room. House tour tickets can be purchased in this area also.

    Additional activities include children’s singing groups featured on Sunday afternoon in the Community Club building. Come and sing along with your favorite Christmas carols and songs.

    Most of these activities are within walking distance of one another.

    Families will also enjoy the “Christmas in the Barn” event at the Rainbow Ranch Petting Zoo along Route 15. Animals from the very first Christmas will be featured for the children to learn to know.

    All of these activities are a delightful way to start your holiday season.

  • Social For New Residents Saturday

    The monthly social for new residents to the west part of the county will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 to 11 at Victory II in Okawville.
