Since we live in a country that is about 2 1/2 centuries old, it is mind boggling to see buildings over 2000 years old in Italy.
Gary and I took a Gate 1 10 day group tour of some of the major sites of Italy. Our October trip had great weather, along with huge crowds who also come for moderate temperature.
The Colosseum in Rome, built in 80 AD, is the largest standing amphitheater in the world. Sections of the wall are missing, lost to earthquakes and looters. The floor has the sand that soaked up the blood of the gladiators.
We can now marvel at the Colosseum and other ruins in Rome that were not razed in urban renewal…
