Tornado, High Wind Causes Damage In Area Friday

A shed at the Hughes farm on Chickadee Road in Covington Township was destroyed.

A 5.7 mile path of a tornado damaged a building at the south edge of Okawville and destroyed a machine shed on Chickadee Road in Covington Township Friday evening. The path was mainly over open farm fields, said Washington County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency Director Matt Bierman. Trees in the path were damaged.
The tornado lifted the roof of the 1938 section of the former shop at Riechmann Bros. John Deere on the south edge of Okawville. The roof was thrown into the north side of a Quonset shed, which was destroyed, said business partner Bill Riechmann.

    Lakeside Circle 8 residents were also hit by the tornado Friday night (3/31). Several downed trees, a small shed was destroyed, a wooden double carport was destroyed by a falling tree limb, a 18′ x 47′ metal carport was uplifted and blown into the woods and a very heavy 3 cubic yard dumpster was turned upside down..
