50 Years and Nine Pacemakers Later, Nashville Man’s Hearts Keeps Ticking

By Debby Stricker

Ron Brown of Nashville credits pacemakers with giving him a long, healthy life. The 84 year old got the first of his 9 Medtronic pacemakers when he was only 34 years old.
The condition of his heart not receiving sufficient impulse to beat meant that he likely would have died in a year without it, Brown said.
The pacemakers were replaced as technology improved.
To mark that 50th year milestone, Brown and his family were invited to the Medtronic headquarters in Minneapolis meeting recently.

I remember Mr. Brown going behind his desk in Biology and doing exercises to get his heart to speed up, this was in ‘69 or ‘70 I think. Many years later I understood, I will be receiving my third pacemaker within the next few months. Guess who was as youthful looking as my classmates at our 50th Class reunion in October ‘23, yep, our Sponsor Ron Brown. An amazing wonderful man.
