Patricia Shaw
Mrs. Patricia Shaw of Okawville departed this life in the Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle, IL on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 6:04 P.M. She had attained the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 26 days.
Patricia was born in New Minden on August 27, 1937, the daughter of Alvis and Alvina (nee Lintker) Sommers. She was united in marriage to Gary Shaw in St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Okawville on December 28, 1957, and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2017.
Pat was a 1955 graduate of Okawville High School. She was a homemaker and worked as a cook at the Okawville Grade School for 20 years until her retirement. She was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Okawville where she was an active member of the Altar Sodality. She was also a member of the American Legion Post 233 Auxiliary in Okawville. She would often be seen working alongside her husband Gary at numerous Okawville Lion’s Club events and fundraisers. Pat enjoyed traveling and she served as a chaperone on several of the Okawville High School Senior trips. She especially loved following her grandchildren in all of their sports activities.
Left to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Tammy Frederking and husband Durwin of Okawville, Carla Zapp and husband Jeff of Addieville, and Pamela Switala and husband Steve of Okawville; eight grandchildren, Lucas Frederking and wife Meagan, Brent Frederking and wife Melissa, Jacob Frederking and wife Sarah, Lesley Burkey and husband Jason, Nick Zapp and wife Lisa, Vanessa Birchler and husband Mike, Malia Rodgers and special friend Bob Gunter, and Jenna Switala and special friend Chris Culli; ten great grandchildren, Bryndle, Raelynn, Madelyn, and Bryson Frederking, Heath and Brooks Zapp, Evelyn Burkey, Avery Switala, Annie Culli, and Oliver Rodgers; one sister, Dolorus Pfautsch and husband George of Oakland, CA; a brother-in-law, Rob Shaw and wife Charlotte of Freeburg, IL; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Sommers and wife Erma; two sisters, Lucy Bailey and Shirley Holtgrewe and husband Kermit; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Forrest and Anna Mae Shaw; and two sisters-in-law, Jean Gaebe and husband Ben and June Ellerbusch.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Okawville on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11 A.M. with Fr. Christopher Anyanwu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, Mass offerings or memorials may be made to the St. Barbara Building Fund or to the Okawville Lion’s Club and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
