Circuit Judge Tells County Board Of Changes In Court System

By Debby Stricker

Circuit Judge Dan Emge told the County Board about changes in the circuit court in the past six months at their meeting February 14.

Supervision of people charged with a crime is now handled by the state pre-trial, and by the probational officer provided by the county, funded by the state, after trial. Judge Emge said that the Probation Department is understaffed for the workload of monitoring  drug testing and home visits of those released.

A new Circuit Court District was established, to separate St. Clair County form Washington and other counties. Two new associate judge positions were filled in July.

Judge Emge was elected Chief Judge of the Circuit by other judges.
