Rockets Win Final Regular Season Game, Advance in Regional

The Okawville Rockets traveled to Carlyle last Tuesday night for their final game of the regular season and came away with the hard fought 49-48 victory.

Senior Hayden Shubert got the Rockets on the board early, scoring six points in the opening quarter. A strong post move from Aidan Anderson capped off the scoring and the Rockets found themselves out in front 8-5 after the opening frame.

Hayden Shubert added another six points in the second quarter, along with Joe Jansen throwing in five points of his own. Jansen scored a strong basket while being fouled, along. Grant Schleifer added a steal and coast to coast lay-up to give the Rockets a 21-12 half-time lead.

Jansen and Dillon Teter kicked off the second half with three pointers extending the Rockets lead to 29-14. 

After the Rockets took their biggest lead of the game, the Indians showed their mettle and fought back behind their press and closed to within 32-27 after three quarters.

The defensive pressure continued in the final frame, and some timely three pointers from the Indians brought them all the way back as they took a 48-40 lead with two minutes to go. 

A strong basket from Anderson pulled the Rockets to within 48-46. The Rockets secured a big stop on the ensuing possession and got the ball back down two with a minute to go. Working their offense, the Rockets found Teter open in the left corner for a three pointer that put the Rockets back in front 49-48. 

Two big stops on the final possession and the Rockets came away with the 49-48 victory.
