Rockets Win Twice, Improve to 8-16
By Coach Ryan Heck
The Okawville Rockets went on the road Friday night and picked up a big conference over the Chester Yellow Jackets by a score of 50-38.
Sophomore Aidan Anderson got the Rockets on the board 2-0 with a layup. After a three-point play from the Yellow Jackets, Joe Jansen picked up an offensive rebound for a layup to put the Rockets back up 4-3, and they would never trail again. Three-pointers from Grant Schleifer, Jansen, and Landen Shubert had the Rockets leading 15-7 after the opening quarter.
Scoring slowed down for the Rockets in the second quarter, but the defense remained sharp. Two three-pointers from Schleifer and Hayden Shubert took the Rockets into the half with a 21-15 lead.
After the break, the Rockets picked up right where they left off with a three-pointer from Dillon Teter and a post bucket from Anderson to push the lead to 26-15.
Chester tried to claw back in the game on multiple occasions but the Rockets used some steady play to maintain their lead. Schleifer added two more three-pointers, Hayden Shubert and Jansen each tossed in another, and Anderson kept the Yellow Jackets off the offensive glass by snagging 13 rebounds on the evening. Add all those things up and the Rockets came out with a hard fought 50-38 victory.
