Pearl Ida Louise Twenhafel
Pearl Ida Louise Twenhafel, 96, of New Minden, IL, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Friendship Manor in Nashville, IL. Pearl was born in Hoyleton, IL, on September 8, 1926, to Martin H. and Clara (nee Kraus) Twenhafel. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers Willard and Robert, her sister-in-law Janet Rose (nee Kneschke), and a sister, Agnes, in infancy.
Pearl grew up living and working on the family farm in Hoyleton. She worked at a shoe factory in Carlyle for nearly 40 years until the factory closed, and then at Nascote Industries in Nashville until she retired. Pearl was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, where she taught Sunday School to generations of children. She was a competitive bowler for many years, and also enjoyed playing Bunco, quilting, visiting with shut in’s and those in nursing homes and volunteering, especially at the New Minden Braille Center.
Pearl will be remembered as a woman who lived her life selflessly in service to God, her family, and her community.
Pearl is survived by her niece Kathy (Keith) Woodward of Wichita, KS; her nephew Terry (Beth) Twenhafel of Smithton, IL; niece Kara (Jake) Simon of Webster Groves, MO; as well as five grandnieces and grandnephews: Daniel Woodward, Lauren and Adam Twenhafel, and Mia and Lola Simon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden with Rev. Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church.
