Corene L. Elizabeth Reid
Mrs. Corene L. Elizabeth Reid of Nashville, IL, departed this life at her residence on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 10:10 A.M. She had attained the age of 83 years and 1 month.
Corene was born on November 15, 1939, at Plum Hill Township, Washington County, Illinois, the daughter of William and Hilda (nee Althoff) Schwengels. She was united in marriage on December 8, 1962, to Fred Reid of Carlyle, IL and they recently enjoyed their 60th anniversary.
Corene was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She volunteered at the Irvington Food Pantry, delivered Meals-On-Wheels and was a Washington County Election Judge for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing cards and sharing years of fun and laughter with her card club friends and her “High School Girls.” Corene loved to garden and would share her vegetables with whoever happened to come by. She enjoyed part-time jobs at North Mill Veterinary Clinic, Meyer’s Greenhouse, Flowers Plus, The Flower Shop and driving a school bus. But mostly, Corene loved being a farmer. She began farming with her dad at a very young age and continued throughout her life, driving tractors and trucks and loved it all.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Fred Reid of Nashville, IL; 3 children, Mark Reid and wife Robin, Amy Kasten and husband Chris, and Roger Reid and special friend Cissy Patton all of Nashville; 8 grandchildren, Dane (Carlie) Kasten, Heather Kain, Morgan Elizabeth (Ryan) Clinton, Kellen Kasten, Chandler (fiancée Payton Hoh) Reid, Rachel Elizabeth (Craig) Dalman, Ethan and Ben Reid; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Elizabeth and Louis Kasten, Gracelyn Elizabeth and Caroline Clinton and Leah Dalman; sister, Lavayne Hackstadt of Nashville; niece Kendra (Jim) Vanagas; nephew, Neal (Angie) Hackstadt; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Norman Hackstadt.
Per the wishes of Corene and her family, cremation was performed, and a memorial service will be held at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville, IL on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 7 P.M. with Pastor Beverly Kahle officiating. Interment of Ashes will be held at a later date in the St. Paul Cemetery in Nashville.
Friends may call at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville on Thursday from 4 P.M. until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the St. Paul Sunday School Program and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
