Report Cards Issued for Schools in Illinois

By Travis Volz

Illinois School Report Cards were released week, and Okawville Junior/Senior High School earned an exemplary designation in the first report since 2019.

Earning an exemplary rating means Okawville Junior/Senior High School performed in the top 10 percent of schools statewide, with no under performing student groups.

Okawville Grade School earned a commendable designation, which indicates that school that has no underperforming student groups, a graduation rate greater than 67 percent, and whose performance is not in the top 10 percent of schools statewide.

With only limited data available for schools in the last two year, Illinois School Report Cards were not issued in the last two years. Similarly, not all of the data in this report is accurate or up to date, according to Superintendent Keith Senior.

OJSHS has a graduation rate of 91 percent, which is above the state average of 87.3 percent. Small class sizes leaves little margin for error in this metric, explained Senior.

“In a class with only 36 students, two kids dropping out makes a big difference in the percentages,” he said.
