New COVID Case Count Drops in September
By Travis Volz
The number of new COVID cases reported last month in Washington County dropped for the first time since spring.
In September, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 55 new cases, the lowest number of cases reported since the spring.
IDPH reporting shows that the number of new cases rose every month since April, when only ten cases were reported. August saw 129 new cases, more than twice as many as in September.
For the first time since the middle of May, there are no Illinois counties listed at High Community Level by the CDC, and only 20 counties classified as Medium Community Level. The nearest county listed at the Medium Community Level is Fayette County.
