Arthur L. Koetting Jr.
Mr. Arthur Koetting Jr. of Okawville, IL departed this life at his residence on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 11:18 A.M. He had attained the age of 98 years and 19 days.
Arthur was born in Okawville on September 18, 1924, the son of Arthur Sr. and Katherine (nee Rossel) Koetting. He was united in marriage to Polly Smith in St. Louis on April 30, 1948, and she preceded him in death on October 17, 2012.
Mr. Koetting was a 1942 graduate of Okawville High School. He was inducted into the United States Army Air Corp in 1943and was an Aviation Cadet assigned to the 3071st AAFBU out of Amarillo Airfield, TX. Art was a long-time member of American Legion Post 233 in Okawville where he proudly served on the honor guard. Mr. Koetting served as Postmaster at the Okawville Post Office for 38 years and was a member of the National Association of Postmasters. He then served as an Associate Coordinator for the United States Postal Service in St. Louis for five years until his retirement.
Art was a faithful member of the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville. For several years, he served as treasurer of the West Washington County School District and also served on the Okawville School Board. He was also a life-time member of the Okawville Lions Club. Art enjoyed traveling and took great pride in being an airplane pilot even into his nineties. He also loved his antique cars and was a member of the Convertible Continental Club of Colorado and the T-Bird Club of St. Louis.
Left to mourn his passing are his two sons, Michael Koetting and wife Barbara of Germantown, IL and William Koetting and wife Debbie of Breese, IL; five grandchildren, Morgan Stock and husband Terry, Sean Koetting, Spencer Koetting and wife Katie, Taylor Koetting and wife Danielle, and Dylan Koetting and special friend Kayla Wesselmann; five great grandchildren, Liam, Wynn, Trace, Alaina, and Avery; special friend and caregiver, Greg Schlich; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 11 A.M. with Fr. Christopher Anyanwu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Militray graveside honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 233 of Okawville.
Friends may call at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville on Wednesday from 9 A.M. until 11 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, The Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Cancer Society and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home
