Okawville Cross Country Season Starts Monday
The Okawville High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams began official practice on Monday, August 8. The first meet for both teams will be on August 22, at New Athens.
The Rockets will be led by four-year runners and seniors Joseph Jansen, Jared Juenger, Evan Perry, and Grant Schleifer. Schleifer qualified for the IHSA State Meet in his junior season.
Sophomores on the team include Nolan Frantz, Oliver Gaubatz, Thor Gavin, and Wil Tepe. Freshmen newcomers are Zander Hasheider and Ryker Obermeier.
After winning the Cahokia Conference title last year, the Lady Rockets will feature seniors Kylie Buehler, Hannah Miller, Megan Rennegarbe, and Lexie Todd.
Junior harriers for Okawville are Mallory Bening, Lauren Haacke, Ady Harre, Nora Wood and Lydia Luechtefeld. Luechtefeld advanced to the Wesclin Sectional last year.
Sophomores runners are Sidney Charles, Sarah Cook, and Paige Kolweier. Caroline Tepe is the freshman.
