Summer Uptick in COVID Cases Continues
By Travis Volz
Since April, COVID case counts in Washington County have been on the rise, and July has already surpassed June in the total number of new cases reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
July has already seen 93 new cases in the county, which is more than the 88 cases reported in June.
April marked the lowest case count since the early days of the pandemic when only ten cases were reported. May saw an uptick to 40 new cases, and the numbers have been moving up ever since.
With about a week still left in the month, July’s total is in line with the number of cases last fall, which reached 250 in December before peaking at the pandemic-high total of 798 in January.
