After initial bids for the new fire house in Okawville came in over bid, initial construction work on the project started last week.
Construction crews began ground work on the new building, which will be located west of the Dairy Queen on State Route 177.
Plans for the new building were approved last year, but the first bids that came in earlier this spring were higher than what had been budgeted for the project.
“The first numbers were higher than we had budgeted, so we had to make some changes to the plans to bring construction costs down,” said Jeff Rabenort of the Okawville Fire Protection District.
