Cecil D. Alfeldt

Cecil Dale Alfeldt, age 87, of Oakdale, IL, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at 4:59 p.m. at the Alfeldt Tree Farm. Cecil was born on May 29, 1935 in Oakdale, IL, a son to Edward H. and Irene B. (Frieman) Alfeldt. On July 8, 1972, he married Myrene Carson at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL.

Cecil graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany. He worked as an accountant for Egyptian Paper Company in Chicago, taught at the Okawville Grade School, was principal of Addieville Grade School, and later operated coin laundries and car washes in Marissa, New Athens, and Sparta. He was co-owner of Alfeldt’s Tree Farm in Oakdale in partnership with his brother, Rudy Verdell.

Cecil was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL, where he taught Sunday School, served as a youth group leader, and was an elder. He served on the ball park committee, was president of the Oakdale School Board, and was the current Oakdale Village President. Cecil was a past president of the Illinois Christmas Tree Association, and received a lifetime achievement award for his service to the MidAmerica Christmas Tree Association.

Cecil enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball, raising chickens, working in the garden, spending time at the tree farm, and attending his grandchildren’s sports games.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Myrene Alfeldt of Oakdale, IL; a son, Greg (Crystal) Alfeldt of Oakdale, IL; a daughter, Karen Alfeldt of Oakdale, IL; a brother, Rudy Verdell Alfeldt of Marissa, IL; two sisters-in-law, Sandy Alfeldt of Nashville, IL, and Ruth Alfeldt of Peoria, IL; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Edith Lancaster of Ballwin, MO; and two grandchildren, Arabella Alfeldt and Royce Plumlee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Edward Harold Alfeldt and Enloe Keith Alfeldt.

Funeral services will be held at Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend John Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Elkton Cemetery, Elkton, IL.

Visitation will be held at the Pyatt Funeral Chapel in the Village Hall, Oakdale, IL on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the Oakdale United Presbyterian Church, Oakdale, IL from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
