Deanna Shubert Hacker

Deanna Shubert Hacker passed away at her home on May 17, 2022, surrounded by her family. Deanna was the daughter of Oliver and Annie Shubert, of Elkton IL.
She was born in St. Louis on November 15, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David Shubert and Michael Shubert and former husband, Ron Hacker.
Deanna is survived by her three daughters, Julie Hacker Smith, St. Louis; Tara Hacker Becker (Tim), St Louis; and Amber Hacker Forrester, Belleville; brothers Doug, Jeff, Randy (Paulette), Jay (Monica), Marshall and her sister Andrea Shubert Gehrer; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Shubert and Dulce Shubert; a special cousin, Nina Shubert Logan; and a special friend and daughter of the heart, Nubia Monsalve. She leaves 6 grandsons, Owen and Aiden Randall; Soren and Ronan Smith; and Elliot and Sullivan Becker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Deanna dearly loved her grandchildren and was a devoted “Grandma Mom,” a name given to her by her first grandson, Owen. She was a very hands-on grandma and loved teaching them about nature. The boys loved riding with her on the lawn tractor or helping her pick up sticks in the yard. Deanna made everything exciting and fun for them.
Deanna was especially fond of the dogs she had through the years, and they were each devoted to her. Whenever she acquired a new puppy, she waited for the pup to name itself by its actions and personality and they all did. Her last pup, Putter, was a constant companion for many years. Deanna was very independent and resourceful.
She was comfortable doing things and going places on her own. She worked at the Freeburg Pharmacy for 30 plus years and knew just about everyone in the town of Freeburg, where she raised her family.
A memorial service will be held for Deanna at the Elkton Union Church on Sat. May 28, 2022, at 11:00 with a graveside service immediately following at the Elkton Cemetery near Oakdale. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. alzfdn.org
