Hazardous Device Unit Called to Okawville Monday

A suspected bomb resulted in the evacuation of homes in a four-block radius around Elkton Street in Okawville Monday night.

The explosive detecting K9 unit from Scott Air Force Base was called to the scene after a resident found what looked like a pipe bomb while moving scrap metal.

The K9 unit indicated that the item in question could be an explosive deveice. The Illinois Secretary of State Hazardous Device Unit arrived on scene to remove the item from its location from the bed of a pickup truck on Elkton Street.
