Alice J. Madero

Alice Jean Madero of Venedy, IL, formerly of Marissa, IL, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2022, from a short battle with cancer.  She had attained the age of 79 years and 13 days.

Alice was born in Albany, GA on April 5, 1943, the daughter of Elzie and Wilma (nee Newell) Staines. She married the love of her life and best friend, Leland S. Madero, on January 20, 1959, who preceded her in death in 2003.  She left behind a hell of a lot of stuff for her sons and daughter, who have no idea what to do with it all.

Alice was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and embraced every moment with them.  She especially loved her role as Gigi.  She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh.

Alice was a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend.  Her recent hobbies included a borderline hoarder collection of Ritz Crackers and buying random stuff from late-night infomercials.  She had a passionate love affair with ice cream, spaghetti, and anything chocolate.

Anyone else battling cancer would have passed quietly with family by their side. Alice went out with a bang: wearing her favorite slipper socks, comfy in bed watching her murder mystery shows whilst bossing us around and making fun of us bickering.

Alice was world-renowned for her patience, but also not holding back her opinion and a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear.  She also had a never-ending supply of candy that always magically lined the grandkids pockets.

Mrs. Madero ran the cafeteria for the Ferndale, WA school district for several years until retiring in 1996. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marissa, IL.

Alice is survived by her brother; Roy Staines and his wife June; her three sons Steve Madero and wife Christy, Kenneth Madero, and Robert Madero; a daughter, Marcella Nilles and husband Josh; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and a yappy dog named Lilly.  Alice dearly loved her family and touched them deeply.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Strout-Nilles; a great granddaughter, Taylor; and a brother, Leonard Staines.
