Tumultuous Week Ends with Coach’s Resignation
By Travis Volz
A week that started with a social media storm surrounding the potential firing of Okawville Lady Rockets basketball coach Michelle Hasheider-Burianek ended with her resignation Saturday morning.
More than 100 members of the community were on hand at last Thursday’s West Washington County Unit District 10 Board meeting following reports that the board was considering the coaching change.
Though the board did not take action on the matter at the meeting, Hasheider-Burianek announced her intention to resign Saturday morning.
“After much consideration of the events of the last several days, I have decided to step down from my position as Lady Rockets Coach,” she said in a statement. “I appreciate all of the support and love from my family, friends and former athletes, but with my son having another brain surgery, I have decided that I must focus on his health and my own health and take care of my family at this time.”
