New Softball Coach Ready for First Season

By Travis Volz

A new face will be in the dugout when the Okawville Lady Rockets open the spring softball season next week.

Liz Thoel is in her first year of teaching fourth grade and coaching at Okawville, and she wasted no time in getting to know her players.

“A saw a few of the players on the grade school side helping kids with reading and stuff, and I saw them then,” Thoel said. “Then I decided to have a team meeting with everyone, and since then I have two or three players down here every day.”

Thoel says she knew they were a good group of players before the season even started. “They all work hard and are very respectful,” she said of her new squad.

Though Thoel is new to Okawville, she is not new to softball. She played in high school at Valley Park, Mo., in college at McKendree University, and she was an assistant coach at Mascoutah for eight years.
