Barkau Stepping Into Big Job for Rockets

Beau Barkau has been coaching baseball for years, and he is ready to take over the big job for the Okawville Rockets.

After six years as an assistant coach under Jackie Smith, Barkau is learning the varsity job is more than just baseball fundamentals.

“This is the first time I’ve put together practice schedules and some of the other administrative stuff,” Barkau said. “I’m used to showing up and running one station, so its a bigger job.”

It may be a bigger job, but it is one Barkau has had in his sights for a while. “This is my dream job, and I’m really enjoying it,” he said.

Barkau said he has a good coaching staff with lots of experience, including Rick Gaebe, Cameron Obermeier, Dan Kramer and Payten Harre.
