IDNR To Preserve Rare Southern Flatwoods In County

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources plans to preserve  rare flatwoods tract on a tract it bought in Plum Hill Township in 2021.

IDNR purchased 120 acres from the Howard Bohbrink Estate for $582,000. Funding was provided by the Open Land Trust.

The woods is part of a total of only 600 acres of high-quality flatwood remaining in the entire state. Ab

The property is located on the west side of Plum Hill Road and Grand, near Nashville.

It is mostly Grade A Southern Or Post Oak Flatwoods. The tract has been listed on the Illinois Natural Areas Inventory since the Inventory was first completed in late 1970, known as the Williams Creek Woods INAI site.
