Rockets Fall to Freeburg, Gibault

By Ryan Heck

Freeburg 45, Okawville 31

The Rockets traveled to Freeburg last Tuesday night to take on the Freeburg Midgets.

Joe Jansen got the Rockets on the board right away with a layup in traffic to tie the game up at 2-2. A three pointer, and a conventional three point play from senior Ethan Riechmann pushed the Rockets ahead 8-7 in the early going. Jansen added another conventional three point play to pull the Rockets within two as the Rockets trailed 15-13 after the opening quarter.

Senior Cole Wiedwilt kicked off the second quarter with a three pointer from the left corner to give the Rockets a 16-15 lead. Unfortunately it would be the last Rocket lead of the game. Freeburg closed the half on an 11-2 run and took a 26-18 lead into the half.

After the tough stretch to end the first half, the Rockets showed their resiliency and bounced back with a very strong effort in the third quarter.

Three pointers from Jansen and Dillon Teter pulled the Rockets to within one point. After Freeburg scored their lone basket of the quarter, the Rockets answered right back with a bucket of their own and trailed 29-27 after three quarters.

A quick basket from Riechmann to start off the fourth quarter knotted the score up at 29. However, Freeburg responded with a 10-0 run to once again move out in front. The Rockets went ice cold down the stretch and were unable to stay with the Midgets late and ultimately fell 45-31.

Riechmman paced the Rockets with ten points. Rounding out the scoring was Jansen with eight, Teter and Schleifer with four apiece, Wiedwilt three, and Aidan Anderson two.
