Julie (McGuire) Adkins

Julie Ann (McGuire) Adkins, 67, of West Frankfort, died on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at her home. 

She was born June 20, 1954 in East St. Louis to Leonard and Betty (McLaughlin) McGuire. The former Venedy resident graduated from Okawville High. She was married to Thomas H. Adkins Jr. of West Frankfort, on May 3, 1989.

Julie knew as a little girl that she wanted to be become a nurse and spent 50 years in the medical profession. She had a doctorate in nursing, and operated a primary care clinic, Adkins Family Practice in West Frankfort until her death. Her passion was caring for her patients. 

In January Julie wrote on the Family Practice website about her struggle with COVID symptoms. 

Julie is survived by 5 sons, Thomas Adkins of Virginia Beach, VA; Timothy Adkins of Vero Beach, FL, Adam (Danielle) Rahman of Edwardsville; Zack (Caitlin) Adkins of Wheaton; and Joshua Rahman of Scott Air Force Base. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Thomas Joseph Adkins, Elizabeth Adkins, Ava Rahman, Noah Rahman, Mina Adkins, and a grandson arriving soon. Also surviving are siblings, Timothy McGuire and Susan (McGuire) Weber, several nieces, a nephew, and her beloved dog Stanley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

At Julie’s request, her remains will be cremated and there will be no visitation or burial. Please remember her in your prayers and all the great memories that you shared together. The family is grateful for all the love and support.

    My deepest condolences to Julie’s family. I barely knew her as a teenager, but thought a lot of her at that time, as she was always friendly and always smiling. I’m sure she will be deeply missed.
