Lady Rockets Beat Highland
After a week off, the Okawville Lady Rockets opened with a win over Highland Monday night at the Mascoutah Tournament.
Okawville was in command throughout, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs in every quarter to notch the 49-29 win.
Though they struggled knocking down shots, the Lady Rockets’ defense allowed just one bucket in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead.
Okawville pulled away in the second half, leading by as much as 24 points on the way to the win.
Despite connecting on 6-of-14 three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws, the Lady Rockets managed to hit just 12-of-40 two-point shots.
Even with all of Okawville’s missed shots, Highland only managed to score in double figures in one quarter against the Lady Rockets’ stingy defense.
Alayna Kraus led Okawville with 14 points, while Briley Rhodes finished with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Megan Rennegarbe had eight points and three boards, and Raegen Luechtefeld grabbed six caroms.
The Lady Rockets played two games Tuesday. The faced Freeburg Tuesday at 1 p.m., and the results of that game will determine the second game of the day. The tournament will wrap up Wednesday.
