Joseph D. Schrage
Joseph Schrage of Okawville, IL departed this life at his residence surrounded by his family, on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11 P.M. He had attained the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 27 days.
Joseph was born in Breese, IL on February 14, 1946, the son of Joseph H. and Lenora (nee Middeke) Schrage. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Luechtefeld in the St. Liborius Catholic Church in St. Libory, IL on June 28, 1968, and she survives his passing.
Mr. Schrage served in the United States Army as an Attendant to Foreign Dignitaries and visiting Generals at Fort Bragg, NC, having achieved the rank of Sergeant. After his military service, he worked careers in manufacturing, coal mining, and construction, retiring from Operators Local 520. He was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Church in Okawville and a former member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lively Grove, IL. Joseph was a member of American Legion Post 683 in St. Libory and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council 3789 in New Athens, IL. Joe was an avid golfer, loved camping, traveling, and spending time with family. Joseph especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Kathleen Schrage of Okawville; two sons, Joseph S. and wife Barbara (nee Boyer) Schrage of Warrenville, IL and Eric and wife Lisa (nee Pine) Schrage of Collinsville, IL; a sister, Carol Helms of Naperville, IL; four grandchildren, Joseph Hunter, Braden, Benjamin, and Jacob Schrage; several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and John Schrage, and a sister, Judy Schrage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Okawville on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. with Fr. Christopher Anyanwu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military graveside rights will be accorded by American Legion Post 683 of St. Libory.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Saturday from 8 A.M. until 10:15 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Barbara Building Extension Project and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
