The Washington County Board passed a tax levy that is 5 percent increase from the previous year at its meeting last Tuesday. The county will levy $4.502 million in taxes, a $214,000 increase from last year’s $4.288 million levy.
The total county budget is $15,233,7110. Other income is generated from state income tax, sales tax, fees/fines collected by offices, and video gaming.
CPA Gary Malawy of Krehbiel and Ass. reported that an increase of $269,000 would be allocated for the General Fund. In the past, that fund has had shortfalls, which necessitated borrowing from the Prairie State Fund.
The increase to the General Fund comes from the increase in the levy, and reducing the allocation to other funds, Malawy explained.
