Following a contentious debate on the question of reporting COVID cases in the school, the West Washington County Unit District Board of Education will maintain the current policy.
The discussion came near the end of the meeting, when board member Cathy Cook made a motion for the board to consider changing school policy on reporting the number of positive cases in the school on a weekly basis.
Cook made the motion following a debate between board members and district staff about the potential benefits and costs of reporting the numbers of students who test positive for the virus or are currently under quarantine.
As the meeting agenda did not include a potential change to district policy, no action would be taken regardless of the outcome of the vote.
