Rabenorts Named Parade Marshals

By Travis Volz

Community service and volunteerism come second nature to both Jeff and Donna Rabenort. As an acknowledgement for their countless hours of work, the Rabenorts were named honorary Parade Marshals for the Okawville Wheat Festival Parade this Sunday.

High school sweethearts who have been married for nearly 40 years, the Rabenorts have lived their entire lives in Okawville. They both also came from families that put a premium on community service.

“I learned about volunteering from my parents,” said Donna. “My dad (Bill Riechmann)  served on the county board and always was busy, and my mom worked in the church and PTO, among other things.”

Jeff said he followed in his father’s footsteps, serving on the fire board and countless other work in the community. His mother was always busy in her church.

“I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t sit back when something needs to be done,” Jeff said. “It’s what you do when you’re part of a great community.”
