John B. Selby

John B. Selby, 83 of Richview, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia from complications from a stroke last week. 

He was born on December 30, 1937 in St. Louis, MO, the son of John ,Sr. and Hazel Rust Selby. He married Shirley Emrick on January 24, 1974 in Gulfport, MS. Besides his wife of 47 years, he is survived by a sister Jane (Jim) Gradl of Hudson, FL; three sisters-in-laws, Linda Schaeffer of Nashville, Jan St. Louis of Ashley, and Diana Emrick of Richview; along with a host of nephews and nieces.

Mr. Selby received his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Management at Lindenwood University. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He started his career with the St. Louis Police Department, followed by serving as Police Chief at Lake St. Louis, MO and Central City Police Chief. He also served a tour of duty in Bosnia and Kosovo with the United Nations Peacekeeping Corps. John loved to play golf and softball. He even played in a senior men’s softball league in his 70’s. Mr. Selby was an organ and tissue donor.
