James “Jim” Bruno Witte

Mr. James “Jim” Bruno Witte of Nashville, IL departed this life at the Washington County Hospital-Extended Care in Nashville, IL on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 12:07 AM. He had attained the age of 76 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Jim was born on May 1, 1945 in Centralia, IL, the son of Bruno and Mildred (nee Vogt) Witte. He was united in marriage to Eunice (nee Krueger) Rueter on January 11, 2014 and she survives his passing.

James was a grain and livestock farmer on the same Centennial farm since 1963. He was a faithful, lifetime member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL, where he served on the Finance Board and the Cemetery Committee for many years. Jim served in the Air National Guard and was a member of the Nashville American Legion Post 110 for more than 50 years. He served as a trustee of Covington Township for many years. For over 30 years, Jim enjoyed raising turnips and giving them away to the public and also to the local food bank. He loved farming, family gatherings, Cardinal Baseball and tractor pulling events. Jim was dearly loved and will be missed.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Eunice Witte of Nashville, IL; two brothers, Allen Witte of Nashville, IL and Dennis Witte and his wife Terri of New Minden, IL; nieces and nephews, Crystal May, Dempsey (Jenny) Witte, Michael (Jill) Witte, Angie (Steve) Kohlbrecher and Doug Witte; nine great nieces and nephews, Katie and Kris May, Chandler, Bennet and Ava Witte, Dawson, Sienna and Sylvia Witte and Nolan Kohlbrecher; four step daughters, Natalie (David) Ibendahl, Robin (Harrison “Butch”) Rhine, Sara (Greg) McDaniel and Laurie (Kevin) Schultz; 12 step grandchildren Jessica (Ryan) Spenner, Joshua (Courtney) Ibendahl, Kerri (Jesse) Krawiecki, Courtney (Kody) Moore, Melanie (Hunter) Cooper, Cody Rhine (special friend Alyssa Kretzer), Samuel McDaniel (special friend Kayla Bruns), Megan and Benjamin McDaniel, Adie, Brody and Blake Schultz; four step great grandchildren, Nolan and Ada Spenner and Huck and Cordi Moore; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at 11 AM with Pastor Timothy Mueller officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 110.

Friends may call at the St. Johns Lutheran Church in New Minden on Monday from 5 PM until 8 PM and on Tuesday from 8 AM until the service hour.

Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
