Vaccine availability still falls short of the demand, but the Washington County Health Department continues its mission to vaccinate as many people as possible.
County Surpasses Statewide Vaccination Rate
Washington County increased its vaccination percentage over the last week, surpassing the statewide average for the first time.
According to data on the Illinois Department of Health website, 9.4 percent of county residents are fully vaccinated. This is higher than the 9.04 percent statewide average. These numbers reflect those who have been vaccinated by the WCHD as well as those receiving their shots from other sources.
In addition to the 1,316 people fully vaccinated, a total of 4,164 doses have been administered to county residents. This reflects shots administered through WCHD and other providers.
Only Three New Cases Last Week
The new case count in the county was lower than it has been since last summer, as just three people tested positive for coronavirus since last Tuesday.
WCHD is tracking just three active cases, though another death, a man in his 60s, was reported to up the death toll to 28 since the start of the pandemic.
