Mrs. Maxine Caroline Laughlin of Okawville, IL departed this life in the St. Louis University Hospital at St. Louis, MO in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 7, 2021. She had attained the age of 73 years, 1 month and 16 days.
Maxine was born in Beaucoup, IL on January 22, 1948 the daughter of George and Olivia (nee Moeller) Strate. She was united in marriage to James Laughlin in the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville on February 12, 1977 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2009.
Maxine was a 1966 graduate of Okawville High School. She was a homemaker and had previously worked as an aid at the Washington Springs Nursing Home in Okawville. She also worked at the Okawville Sundries until failing eyesight forced her retirement. Maxine enjoyed listening to the local high school sporting events on the radio. She also enjoyed sitting out on her front porch when the weather was nice just to enjoy the warmth. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and especially got a kick out of giving them a hard time just for fun.
Left to mourn her passing are her three children, Sara Green and husband Duane of Venedy, IL, Linda Laughlin and special friend Rich Taylor of Damiansville, IL, and John Laughlin of Okawville; five grandchildren, Lucas, Jordan, and Garrett Green, Bryce Laughlin, and Aubrey Taylor; a brother, Charles Strate and wife Jerri of New Baden, IL; three sisters, Rosie Cameron of Ashley, IL, Georgine Fields of Centralia, IL, and Florence Going of Okawville; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Curtis Paul, George, Engelhardt, Kenneth, and Harry Strate; a sister, Shirley Dunnigan; a half-brother, James Strate; and a half-sister, Mary Phillipi.
Funeral services will be held from the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. with her nephew, Tim Dunnigan officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Okawville.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the service hour. Due to Covid-19 health concerns, restrictions will be followed. Face coverings will be required, and social distancing measures will be implemented, with a limited number of visitors in the funeral home at any one time. Please be respectful of time so other visitors may pay their respects to the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family of Maxine Laughlin and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
