Sara E. Steinkamp

Ms. Sara Elizabeth Steinkamp of Pleasant Hill, IL formerly of Okawville, IL departed this life in the Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at 10:34 A.M. following a sudden illness. She had attained the age of 42 years, 4 months, and 11 days.

Sara was born in Galesburg, IL on October 5, 1978 the daughter of Louis and Cindy (nee Bird) Steinkamp. 

Sara attended school at the Steeleville and New Athens Grade Schools and graduated from New Athens High School. After high school, she attended Belleville Area College and after graduation from BAC, transferred to Eastern Illinois University and graduated with degrees in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. Following college, Sara returned to Steeleville Grade School to teach pre-school. She then taught at the Tri Point School in Kempton, IL and was currently teaching at the Pleasant Hill Grade School. Sara dearly loved her students and they loved her. One of Sara’s students told her mother. “Miss Sara is now a beautiful angel in heaven teaching the other angels about school.” Sara was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Johannisburg, IL. She enjoyed going shopping and like her father, was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Left to mourn her passing is her mother, Cindy Steinkamp of Okawville; a brother, Adam Steinkamp of Centralia, IL; a niece and nephew, Amelia May Steinkamp and Hayden Ellis Steinkamp, who were Sara’s pride and joy. She loved them very much and would often tell others about them. Sara is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

Sara was preceded in death by her father, Louis Steinkamp; paternal grandparents, Herbert and Edna Steinkamp; and her maternal grandparents, Jack and Lydia Bird.

Funeral services will be held from the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Okawville on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 2 P.M. with Pastor Bill Groennert and Pastor Jeffrey Schwab officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Johannisburg. 

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Saturday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and on Sunday at the St. Peter United Church Christ from 1 P.M. until 2 P.M. Due to Covid-19 health concerns, restrictions will be followed. Face coverings will be required, and social distancing measures will be implemented, with a limited number of visitors in the funeral home at any one time. Please be respectful of time so other visitors may pay their respects to the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an education fund that has been established for her niece and nephew, Amelia and Hayden.
