Ruth M. Brueggemann
Ruth M. Brueggemann, 93, was born in Okawville, IL on August 15, 1927 and departed this life on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Care Center of Center Grove, Edwardsville, IL.
Mrs. Brueggemann was a graduate of Okawville High School and a homemaker. She was skilled creating beautiful crafts including crochet masterpieces, ceramic figures, and exquisite Christmas stockings. She enjoyed her role as the life of the party and especially loved dressing up as a lively cackling witch on Halloween. In her younger days, she could cut a rug doing the jitterbug.
She mastered the art of swearing – a talent that she used through her final days – and used her outspokenness to make people laugh. She never let a cute boy pass her by without making a comment, but she had a special love for Elvis. She enjoyed yearly trips to the mall on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and every trip to Starbucks was her first because she didn’t remember going before.
She was a firecracker in every sense of the word, and she will be missed.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Harry F. Brueggemann, whom she married on October 23, 1948; her parents, Alvin and Mildred (nee Heinlein) Blumenhorst; and her sister, Doris (Dale) Beimfohr.
Left to mourn her passing are her son, Thomas Brueggemann and wife Deborah of Collinsville, IL; her granddaughter, Bonnie Brueggemann and husband Aric Wanagat of Maryville, IL; and many relatives and friends.
Due to the COVID pandemic, no funeral services have been scheduled.
Memorials may be made in Ruth’s honor to Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis and can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
