Robert “Bob” Rueter

Mr. Robert “Bob” Rueter of rural Nashville, IL, departed this life at his residence on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 2:51 PM.   He had attained the age of 90 years, 2 months and 2 days.

Bob was born on November 26, 1930 in Covington Towhship, Washington County, IL, the son of Edward and Ida (nee Kohlmeyer) Rueter.  He was united in marriage to Valeria Althoff on October 2, 1955 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Plum Hill, IL and she preceded him in death on August 6, 2015.

Mr. Rueter was a lifelong dairy farmer who loved, his family, his animals and checking on his crops.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL.  In his younger days he enjoyed playing softball and bowling and in his later days he enjoyed watching westerns and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Over the years, Bob held many positions at his church including, Elder, Sunday School and adult bible class teacher and he served two terms on the LCMS Southern Illinois District Board of Directors.  He also served his community as Supervisor of Covington Township, President of the Hoyleton Rural Water Board and Chairman of the Hoyleton Fire Protection District Board. 

Left to mourn his passing is his three children, Terry Rueter of rural Nashville, IL, Lisa Willis and husband Robert of Vincennes, IN and Tricia Rueter of rural Nashville, IL; four grandchildren, Randy Langrehr and special friend Kelly, Kurt Langrehr and Robert Willis, III, all of rural Nashville, IL and  Rebecca Willis of Vincennes, IN; son-in-law, Robert Langrehr and wife Cindy of rural Nashville, IL; sister, Viola Thouvenin of Huey, IL; 3 sisters-in-law, Martha Rueter of CA, Diane Rueter of MO and Eunice Rueter-Witte and husband Jim of rural Nashville, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Kim Langrehr; six brothers, Wilbert, Edward, Louie, John, Delbert, and Arnold Rueter; a sister, Lorna Rueter and brother-in-law, Ron Thouvenin.

Funeral services will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 1:30 PM with Reverend Timothy Mueller officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL on Monday from 11 AM until the service hour. COVID-19 restrictions will be followed, face coverings required, and social distancing implemented, with a limited number of visitors in the church at any time. Please be respectful of time so other visitors may pay their respects to the family.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Historical Society and Hoyleton Fire Protection District and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
