Teddy Gene Bird

Teddy Gene Bird, age 83, of Harrisburg, IL passed away on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00 am at his home surrounded by his family.

Teddy was born on June 20, 1937 in Creal Springs, IL, the son of Theodore R. and Zella Bird (nee Caldwell).  Teddy was a proud member of the US Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg NC from 1959-1962.   Teddy was a participant on the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois to Washington, DC in 2019 to visit memorials honoring veteran’s service and sacrifice.  He was a retired coal miner, avid gardener, woodworker and master tinkerer for family, friends and neighbors.  

Survivors include his wife, Alice F. Bird (nee Williams) of Harrisburg, IL; one daughter, Kimberley (Brian) Glasscock of Harrisburg, IL; one son, Randy Bird (partner, Ranjan Devar) of Lockhart, TX; two brothers, Toby (Denise) Bird and Ervin (Shirley) Bird all of Swanwick, IL.  He was proud grandfather to five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donnie R. Bird and one sister, Shirley Segelhorst.

Private graveside services, with military honors, will be at the Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL, with Brother Jeff Downard officiating. Interment will be in Swanwick Bethel Cemetery, Swanwick, IL. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Veterans Honor Flight of Southern Illinois.
