School Board Approves 2020 Tax Levy Monday

By Travis Volz

Following a hearing before the regular monthly meeting, the West Washington County Unit District 10 approved the 2020 tax levy. This month’s meeting was held Monday due to the holidays.

The tax levy, payable in 2020-2021, was set at nine percent increase, as in past years. This does not indicate a  nine percent increase in taxes, but is a way to capture any new revenue that may result in increased property value.

Truth in Taxation laws mean that taxing districts are prohibited from raising tax rates by more than five percent or two percent of the consumer-price index. The board will abate taxes in the January meeting.
