Basketball on Track to Begin Practice Monday

Players and coaches are hoping to be back on the hardwood next week after the start of the basketball season was pushed back due to the pandemic.

The Illinois High School Association set the date for the start of the winter sports season for November 16, with games starting November 30.

The SIJHSAA is thus far following the lead of the IHSA with the same dates for the start of practicing and games. The SIJHSAA has a meeting scheduled for Thursday, November 19.

Both the IHSA and SIJHSAA plan to follow basketball guidelines put in place by the IHSA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, which include limiting travel to within regions or conferences, mandating masks for coaches, players and officials, and capping each venue’s capacity at 50 people.

Competitive cheerleading is classified as a lower risk activity by the IHSA, though contact between competitors, including pyramids and toss stunts, are prohibited.
