Junior Lady Rockets Earn Trip to State Tournament

On the strength of a couple of late rallies, the Okawville Junior Lady Rockets advanced to the SIJHSAA State Finals in Nashville this week.

The Junior Lady Rockets opened postseason last Thursday with a 5-1 win over regional host Smithton. The Lady Rockets totaled eight hits. Sarah Cook and Cragen each collected two hits to lead Okawville.

That win set up a championship game against Marissa at Okawville Saturday. Okawville rallied late to bring home the regional championship trophy with a 4-3 win. The Junior Lady Rockets trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Okawville took advantage of an error to score two decisive runs.

Okawville will play in the first round of the state tournament on Wednesday against Nashville at Nashville. The game starts at 4 p.m.
