School Board Prioritizes Requirements For New Superintendent

The West Washington County  School Board ranked the requirements and qualifications that are sought in candidates for School Superintendent. The board has begun the process to fill the position now held by Scott Fuhrhop, who will retire in June 2021.

Using results of surveys of  the School Board, teachers, parents, and the community, the board ranked the priorities of the strengths sought at its board meeting Thursday.

The district has hired Jim Helton of the Illinois School Board Association to facilitate the search and  recommend the top 6 candidates.

Shortage Of Substitute Teachers Could Threaten In-School Classes

A shortage of substitute teachers could force Okawville schools to change from in-school class to remote learning. That could occur without a SINGLE teacher or student actually having COVID, said Junior/Senior High Principal Keith Senior.

Having available substitutes is crucial to keeping the school open when teachers are out for quarantine, he said.
