County Sees First COVID-Related Death, Free Testing This Weekend

Washington County’s suffered its first COVID-related fatality, according to a statement from the Washington County Health Department.

The county resident, a man in his 80s who passed away last week, was the first person from Washington County whose death has been attributed to the coronavirus.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must report our first COVID-related death in a county resident,” the statement from the WCHD said.

A total of 11 people have tested positive for the virus over the last week, upping the county’s case total to 78.

Since the start of the pandemic, four county residents have been hospitalized with complications related to COVID, and a total of 1,524 negative tests have been reported.

Free COVID Testing Event in Nashville

A free community COVID testing event is scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday at the Community Center in Nashville from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

No appointment is needed to be tested, and the event is free and open to anyone six months or older. A face mask is required, and anyone tested must have a valid phone number in order to be contacted with the results of the test.

Face masks will be required at the event, which is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Health, WCHD, and the Community Center of Nashville.
