Tebbe, Kirby Named Coaches of the Year

With an all-Washington County state championship game in junior high girls basketball earlier this winter, it comes as no surprise that two area coaches were honored as IBCA Coach of the Year.

Okawville Junior Lady Rockets coach Aaron Tebbe and Titans Trinity St. Johns/Immanuel Lutheran coach Joe Kirby were announced as winners of the award last week.

Both coaches guided their teams to the SIJHSAA Class S Championship game, where Okawville topped the Lady Titans by a score of 40-22.

It marks the second straight award for both men, who each led their teams to state championships last year. Tebbe won a title in Class M, while Kirby’s squad hoisted the Class S trophy last year.
