New Trash Cans to be Delivered to Residents
The Okawville Village Board discussed a change to trash collection service during the regular meeting Monday night.
Republic Services will provide large trash cans at no charge to residents in Okawville beginning this week.
According to Mayor Dave Jasper, Republic Services will be dropping off 95-gallon trash receptacles to all households and businesses on the collection route this week.
Residents will not be charged for the new trash cans, and the terms of the village’s contract for trash collection, which was originally signed with Dalman Disposal, will remain in place for the next three years. Republic Services bought Dalman Disposal earlier this year.
The new trash cans will allow for easier pickup for Republic trucks. Residents who do not want the larger cans can call the village office for another option.
Republic asks that cans be placed on the curb before 6 a.m. with the opening facing the street. Cans are the property of Republic Services, so residents are not allowed to write or paint on them.
