Village Board Votes Down Request for New Streetlight

The Okawville Village Board voted down a request to add a new streetlight at the proposed site of a new firehouse during the regular board meeting Monday night.

With board members Scott Cragen and Drew Hesker not present, Sarah Deterding’s no vote meant the request did not receive a majority of votes of the whole board.

“We need to hear more about this before we can come to a decision,” Deterding said.

The request for the additional streetlight came from Ameren engineer Pat Murphy, who determined that if a new firehouse is built on the property located along State Route 177, another streetlight may be required.

Okawville Fire Chief Jim Rossel said that discussions of a new firehouse is still in the preliminary stages. Rossel says he expects to have more information after the April meeting of the Okawville Fire Protection District.

Board members voted to approved an ordinance to vacate a portion of Lake Avenue east of Lincoln Boulevard. The board had previously voted to vacate the parcel, and approving the ordinance completed the process.
