Prairie State Generating Co. Unveils Development Plans

Details of the Prairie State Generating Company proposed development of the Lively Grove Mine – North Project were shared with the public at an open house at the corporate office Monday evening.

Project Manager Rich Meyer explained the process and effort to mitigate noise and traffic during and after construction. The Lively Grove Mine – North site is northeast of the PSGC Training Center (former Johannisburg Grade School) on County Highway 12.

Proposed are a small office, locker/shower building, hoist building, ventilation shaft, and parking lot. Additional ventilation is required because of more stringent regulations enacted during the Obama administration, Meyer said. A hoist to transport miners would also improve efficiency by reducing the time it takes to get to the active mining section. The number of miners entering through the hoist at the development would increase from 45 per shift to 90 over 10 years.
