Kraus Notches 400th Career Win Last Week

Though he downplayed the milestone, Okawville Rocket coach Jon Kraus was gratified by the outpouring of support he received after winning his 400th  basketball game last week.

“I’ve talked to other coaches about things like this, and we always say that things like this just mean you’ve been doing it a long time,” he joked.

That may be true, but getting the chance to hang around long enough to win that many games must mean that he is doing something right.

Since taking over for legendary coach Dave Luechtefeld in 2000, Kraus has won the state title in 2018,  a year after finishing second in state, as well as nine regional titles and six sectional championships.

Kraus was recognized following the Rockets’ 45-26 win over Gibault Wednesday at the Okawville Invitational. He said he was not expecting it, but that he appreciated it all the same….
