Nashville Man Killed in Traffic Crash Last Tuesday

A Nashville man was killed in a traffic crash last Tuesday night on State Route 127 just north of New Minden.

James K. Lamar, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:37 p.m. by Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Fletcher.

According to the report from the Washington County Coroner’s Office, Lamar had just left work when the south bound pickup truck he was driving unexplainably crossed the center line and struck a north bound semi truck carrying steel head on.

As a result of the collision, Lamar’s pickup truck was consumed by fire prior to first responders arriving on the scene. An Illinois State Police crash reconstruction officer was called to the scene.

Cause of death appears to be massive blunt force trauma. Toxicology specimens were obtained for routine testing. No autopsy is planned at this time.

Agencies on the scene included the Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Hoyleton Fire Department and Washington County Coroner’s Office.
